Hummingbird specialises in monitoring and sensing systems, delivering Australian made, market leading audio-visual alarms, monitoring systems, inclinometers, tilt switches, timers, isolation switches, GPS trip meters and odometers.
As problem solvers, we deliver both off-the-shelf and customised solutions as we work closely with the heavy vehicle, fleet management, mining, and construction industries.
When designing custom products specifically for individual customer needs, we enhance our relationships, build on existing intellectual property and expand our technology base.
We're located adjacent to Australia’s largest operating Air Force Base, situated alongside other likeminded electronics, aerospace and air industry companies attracting highly skilled personnel, new business development and engineering opportunities.
Hummingbird joins the REDARC Group
On the 1st of May 2015, Hummingbird Electronics were acquired by Adelaide-based advanced manufacturer REDARC Electronics.
REDARC is an advanced manufacturing business with an unrelenting passion for product innovation, customer service and delivering world-class patented battery charging, portable solar, electronic safety and voltage converter products to local and international customers. Like Hummingbird, REDARC has been the recipient of numerous awards.
REDARC and Hummingbird are highly complementary with comprehensive product portfolios, industry leading technological and innovative excellence with outstanding staff. The most exciting outcome from this venture is the opportunity for us to offer our customers an enhanced experience by continually building on the product innovation, quality and performance of two successful teams.
Since being acquired by REDARC, Hummingbird has undergone many changes within their business to align their manufacturing and logistical facets with that of REDARC.
Their impressive growth to date has been partially due to Hummingbird’s ability to bring new and innovative bespoke products to the automotive, mining and transport industries both domestically and abroad. To continue with this impressive growth strategy and to shift with REDARC’s significant expansion plans, Hummingbird Electronics relocated to an all new purpose-built Innovation Centre located at the Defence Technology Business Park, Williamtown in July 2017.
REDARC Group today
Today the REDARC Group (REDARC) employs over 250 people nationally and internationally across Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe, of which 50 are full time engineers. The Group includes REDARC Electronics, Hummingbird Electronics and REDARC Defence & Space, and together they bring over 40 year's experience in advanced electronic design and manufacturing for defence, automotive, marine, medical, mining, and industral applications.
The head office is based in South Australia, at REDARC's advanced manufacturing facility with branch offices in New South Wales and Victoria. The Group is fully integrated and shares the in-house resources including the advanced manufacturing and testing facilities. REDARC take their domestically proven products into international markets across the globe.
Hummingbird history
Hummingbird Electronics was founded in April 2008 by electronic engineer, Norman Ballard. Before moving to Australia, Norman worked for several large engineering firms in his native South Africa. After moving to Australia, Norman identified a need for a company to solve problems unique to Australia, its regulation and its unique environment.
From this, Hummingbird Electronics was established in Port Stephens in New South Wales. Over the years, Hummingbird became recognised for their bespoke product development, unparalleled specialist knowledge and importantly for quality customer service. The business has enjoyed significant growth in delivering electronic solutions to their customers. Hummingbird was the recipient of the 2014 Business of the Year in the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards.
